About Wedington Friends

Our Story

Wedington Friends began as a response to real needs in our community. When dramatic rent increases threatened to displace many longtime residents of Wedington Place Senior Apartments, neighbors came together to support one another. What started as community organizing grew into something deeperโ€”a desire to build lasting friendships and care for one another in the name of Jesus.

Today, Wedington Friends is a local ministry partnership dedicated to loving and serving the residents of Wedington Place through gospel-shaped friendship, belonging, and practical care.

Our Purpose

We exist to create space for:

  • Friendship โ€“ Building genuine relationships and community
  • Spiritual Growth โ€“ Growing together in understanding God’s Word
  • Encouragement โ€“ Supporting one another through life’s challenges
  • Worship & Prayer โ€“ Interacting with a loving Father in gratitude, humility, and dependence.
  • Practical Service โ€“ Meeting tangible needs through biweekly food distribution and other forms of care

What We Believe

Wedington Friends is a community of believers from different church backgrounds who gather around the essential truths of the Christian faith. While we respect the diversity of traditions represented among us, we unite around these core convictions:

Who God Is: We believe in one God who exists eternally as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. He is the Creator of all things, perfectly holy and loving, and worthy of our worship.

Who We Are: We believe that all people are created in the image of God and are deeply loved by Him. Yet we have all sinned and fallen short, and our sin separates us from God. Through repentance and belief in Jesus we are forgiven and made new.

What God Has Done: We believe that Jesus Christ, the Son of God who was fully God, became fully human to rescue us. He lived a perfect life, died on the cross for our sins, and rose bodily from the dead on the third day. He ascended to heaven and will return to make all things newโ€”a new heavens and new earth. Through Jesus, God made the way for us to be reconciled to Him.

How We Respond: We believe that salvation is a gift of God’s grace, received through faith in Jesus Christโ€”not by our own works or effort. All who repent of sin and trust in Christ are forgiven, made new, and given eternal life.

How We Live Together: We believe the Bible is God’s Word and our guide for life and faith. All who trust in Christ are part of God’s family, the Church. We are called to love one another, grow in faith together, and share the hope of the gospel with the world. Though we come from different traditions, we are united by one Spirit as one body in Christ.

*”For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” โ€” John 3:16*

*”And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength… [And] you shall love your neighbor as yourself.” โ€” Mark 12:30-31
